May was perhaps the most dramatic of months in terms of weather changes. We had frost at the beginning of the month and high temperatures at the end. In general, I am happy that the sun is out and the garden is full of abundance but most of all I am happy we didn't have a lot of casualities with the late frost.
The oven situation
...is still ongoing, we have collected €23.50 so €9,976.50 left to our €10,000 target :-D
Remember we need to get the new oven before the heating season starts again.
Special thanks to tRaumstation who started the ball rolling with the first donation.
Volunteers and visitors
In May we welcomed Ananias & Dom and sadly bid them farewell when they needed to go. We also had Petteri, Mascha, Ruben and Ben who came to visit. Finally Scott who has been volunteering here on and off has returned and we are very happy to have him.
What have the animals been up to...
Have been sooo busy, as you can see our Jaguar has collapsed under the strain of manual labour ;-)
See if you can spot the naughty duck hiding in the herb garden (where she should not be!)
Are all doing well and one of them is sitting on 8 duck eggs... more on this next month! Fingers crossed for ducklings.
Podha has been suffering the heat quite a bit and requires frequent trips to the stream, Moomoo & Black are happy to join in the water. So I have been putting on my yellow rubber boots and walking with them up and down the stream looking for adventure.
In the growing spaces
I transplanted peppers, tomatoes, physalis, chili and planted bantam corn, beans, brussel sprouts, cucumber, flowers, kohlrabi, peas, lettuce, marjoram, radish, beans, pumpkins and clover. You can check out the state of the garden beds on the wiki garden atricle.
Early spring crops including mangold are now seeding and I am hoping that we can continue this no interference self seeding chain for as long as possible. I am keeping an eye out for seeds that I can collect and give out to people who want to try grow their own.
We have been eating spinach, garlic, onions, mangold, lambs tongue, mushrooms, lettuce, chickweed, chicken and duck eggs... everything tastes as you would expect from farm to table #delicious.
The fruit trees
Cherry trees have turned blossoms to growing cherries, elderberry trees have started to flower.
Other projects & donations received
More dog gates have been constructed, thank you Scott.
Mascha donated and worked on a sink and counter to be used in our temporary outdoor kitchen facility, the quality of the sanding was excellent :-D
Petteri and Dom worked on the legs for the kitchen sink top.
Ananias worked on improving the alternative way to the shower
Oma we love you, thank you for the many tomato, mangold, physalis, zucchini and lettuce plants
anon Thank you for the €500 donation that has been partially earmarked for seeds and the rest we will still discuss on how to best apply it, will probably have to be eaten up by the oven :-D
openTech Summit Europe
Thank you to everyone who made it to support me, I really appreciated it.
special thanks to Mascha & Ruben for hosting me and making me feel like a princess
