worms, wormeries....and pandas

Franz sent me an article saying that worms are better than pandas...sure but they're not as cute.

It's no secret that I don't like worms and for that matter anything that crawls and yes I know that worms and creepy crawlies are good for the soil etc. etc. rolls eyes I just shudder at the thought of them, also having read the article about them constantly eating and pooping doesn't make me feel more enthusiastic to be honest.

In any case even I recognise that we need to make the most of our resources and so if we can make better compost than we are doing now I'm all for it.

I've seen wormeries that have multiple trays however I think to start off we could set up the simplest construction and that's a big plastic box with holes in the bottom, a few layers of newspaper, compost, some worms (I swear I'm not going to be the one to pick them) and a bit of food to get them going. According to what I read the worms double their population every 3 months so presumably by the time the box is full the population is healthy and we can take out 3 quarters of it and start again.

And so the big plastic box is now on our needs list and if you're interested and so inclined you're welcome to come and set it up. You can also watch a video on how to make one if you want to try this for your garden.
